Medtem ko ZDA razmišljajo o morebitnih vojaških udarih na Iran, je Katar sprejel previdnostne ukrepe na letalskem oporišču Al Udeid, ki ga upravljajo ZDA, in delno evakuiral osebje zaradi naraščajočih regionalnih napetosti. V Iranu so se v zadnjih dneh močno razširili nasilni protesti zaradi poglobljene gospodarske krize, ki trajajo že skoraj dva tedna. Razmere so sprožile ostro besedno vojno med iranskimi oblastmi in administracijo ameriškega predsednika Donalda Trumpa. Trump je prek družbenega omrežja Truth Social izrazil podporo protestnikom in iranskemu režimu postavil ultimat, kar je v Teheranu naletelo na buren odziv. Iranske oblasti so na osrednjem trgu v prestolnici celo postavile nov mural z opozorilom ameriškim vojakom. Znotraj Združenih držav Amerike so Trumpove grožnje sprožile delitve tudi v republikanski stranki. Kongresnik Thomas Massie je javno kritiziral predsednikovo zunanjo politiko in poudaril, da bi se morala država osredotočiti na lastne notranje težave namesto na vmešavanje v iranske zadeve. Medtem ko Washington stopnjuje pritisk, se Iran sooča z najhujšo nestabilnostjo v zadnjih letih, ki jo poganjajo inflacija in nezadovoljstvo prebivalstva nad vladnim upravljanjem gospodarstva.
